One thing I enjoy doing during the Spring is taking advantage of the oven before summer rolls in. This month I received a package from Snake River Farms, the premier producer of American Kobe (Wagyu) steaks and roasts, with a few things in it that I could not wait to try.
One of the items in the package was a 1/2 fully cooked boneless Kurobuta ham.
When I was preparing to reheat the ham I was tempted to add some type of glaze before popping it in the oven. I like my meat with flavor but the directions on the website specifically mention that you don’t need glaze so I listened.
Once it was out of the oven I couldn’t wait to try a piece. The ham turned out delicious, tender and really full of flavor as the Snake River Farms Kurobuta Hams are produced using time-honored curing methods and carefully smoked over real hard wood.
I was impressed with the sweet and rich flavor of the ham and all that was needed was a few sides to make it a meal.
The other three items in the package just might be my favorite. I received 2 American Kobe Filet Mignon steaks and a container of Espresso Brava Sea Salt to give them some flavor.
I love trying new spices and was really interested in trying this gourmet sea salt with an espresso flavor. I have used sea salt but never any that was flavored. I padded the steaks down with some of the gourmet sea salt and they were really to hit the cast iron grill and then off to the oven for the finishing touches.
Let me tell you that this was the BEST steak that I have ever ate. After taking the first bite I wished I hadn’t offered the other because it was that good. I think it was a combination of the type of meat, the gourmet sea salt and the way that I cooked the steak that made it come out PERFECT. I will be definitely be making this steak again with this same gourmet sea salt.
