I have a food pantry and I try to keep it as stocked as possible. When I go grocery shopping, I try to buy extra of the food items that I buy often, especially if it is on sale or if I have coupons. Going grocery shopping is not always fun (especially with kids), so I try to keep the items that I use often on stock so I don’t find myself always buying the same items every time I go to the store or having to make extra trips.
For me, keeping a stockpile of the food items that I use often is a great advantage in case something goes wrong. For instance, if my car breaks down and I don’t have a way to the store, I know that I have food on hand to feed the family. You never know when there will be some sort of emergency, so it is better to be safe than sorry. Some might call their stockpile their foods for survival. If there is an emergency, having a stockpile of foods that you know how to use to create meals with is something that you should have, especially when you have children or others that depend on you for survival.
Here is a small list of some of the food items that you might want to keep in your stockpile:
- Wheat
- Beans
- Rice
- Canned foods
- Peanut butter
- Salt and other seasonings
- Oatmeal
- Honey or sugar
- Dried milk
There are also some that keep freeze dried meals in their stockpile. I have personally never tried these, but I bet they would come in handy if you were really hungry and needed to eat.
So what are some things that you keep in your pantry?
